Topic: Non-executive directors - why, who and where?

The importance of non-executive directors in terms of good and effective corporate governance is set out in this topic. It goes on to explore the issue of who fits the profile of a non-executive director in terms of the Companies Act and various governance codes including King III. The issue of the “shallow gene pool” for directors in South Africa is examined with finally some solutions suggested for solving this problem.

Apart from being the Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa's Accreditation and Assessments Manager, she also serves as non-executive director of the Institute of Business Studies as well as a charity organisation called Kwacare. Her passion in life is to "create an ethical society" and believes that one way to do this is through the practical implementation of good corporate governance. She holds a Masters Degree in Education Management from UNISA.
